Band Night Playing Tunes Fit for a King!
Kingston cover band target biggest ever fundraising gig to celebrate 1100 years of Athelstans coronation in the Royal Borough. "All Saints Church Kingston presents: Run For Cover Playing Tunes Fit for a King! Kingstons favourite cover band www.runforcoverlive.com have been operating in the area for nearly 20 years playing live floorfillers spanning disco, Britpop, rock and dance. Now they take on their biggest ever gig and fundraising challenge at All Saints Church, Kingston-upon -Thames, on Saturday 10th May. The event is promoted by All Saints, supported by Kingstons own Park Brewery and forms part of Kingston Councils Kingston 2025 programme of events to mark 1100 years since Athelstan was crowned as the first King of England in Kingston-upon-Thames. All Saints has established itself as a premier pop music venue, thanks in part to Kingstons renowned Banquet Records. With performances from artists like Hozier and Killer Mike, it is a dynamic hub for live music, keeping the local scene thriving. This will be the first time ever that its hosted a cover band. Paul Thomas from Run For Cover said- We always try to support community causes when we can and to be asked to play this magnificent 700 capacity venue is a great honour. Its a bit daunting but we cant wait to see how tunes from the likes of Oasis, Blur, The Killers, Elbow and Black Eyed Peas sound in its wonderful nave. We met in Kingston and feel proud to be able to represent our home town. The Kingston connections dont stop there with band members and their partners being alumni from Kingston University- an institution Run For Cover marked by playing the last ever gig at Penrhyn Road bar- and running their businesses from Kingston locations. In recent years the band have discovered that their 90s repertoire in particular is as popular with their teenage and student offspring as it is with their hardcore fanbase of friends, followers and local parents. Reverend Joe Moffatt (All Saints Church) said- When we saw Run For Cover play a community gig at the Park Brewery Tap Room we realised we should do something bigger. A huge rock gig fit for both a king and our historic venue. Its a great opportunity for our community to come together, support local businesses and raise funds to continue our outreach music programmes. Tickets are available for just 15 in advance.
