About Barking
Barking is a suburban town in east London and is located 8.8 miles (14.2 km) east of Charing Cross. In addition to an extensive and fairly low density residential area, the town centre forms a large retail and commercial district. The former industrial lands to the south are also being redeveloped as Barking Riverside. Barking station is a local transport hub and is served by the London Underground, London Overground, National Rail operator c2c and many London Bus routes. The east of Barking is served by Upney tube station.
