A family-friendly workshop that will enable people of all ages to engage with the materials and processes of bargello embroidery. Feel free to try the bargello technique, or explore embroidery in your own style! Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a pattern to create motifs. As with many heritage crafts, the origins of bargello embroidery are not well documented, and the technique has been used in many textile traditions across Europe. Traditional designs are very colourful, and use many hues of one colour to produce intricate shading effects. We will work with floral and botanical patterns in this workshop, inspired by Andy Singleton’s exhibition in the gallery space. No prior embroidery experience is necessary to participate in this drop-in workshop.
