What locals say about Plaistow

“Cheap properties compared to the new developments of Stratford and Canning town, you don't need to live in a box if you find a nice terrace house in Plaistow. Best connections to work and shops!! Up and coming area. Great commuter links, super fast to get into Canary Wharf and the City. Uber home from Oxford street is only £20!”

“Good commuter links, shopping, pubs, restaurants.”

“Lots of money spent on the area in last 12-18 months with the upcoming Olympic stadium only a mile away. Lots of trendy apartment conversions and terrace houses with development potential at bargain prices for London, although prices probably won't stay at these prices for long as developments in Stratford can be expensive so people are looking a little further afield now. Transport is great in the area with Plaistow tube station and West Ham (now with DLR) and Stratford in under 10 minutes by bus. Black Lion pub on Greengate is a great, friendly typical East End pub, great beer garden and bar meals.”

About Plaistow

Plaistow (pronounced 'plah-stoh'; often mispronounced 'play-stoh' or 'pla-stoh') is a place in the London Borough of Newham in east London. Plaistow is a mainly residential area, including several council estates; the main road is the A112 - Plaistow Road, High Street, Broadway, Greengate Street and Prince Regent Lane. The historic Black Lion public house is said to have links to the 18th century highwayman Dick Turpin and was also frequented by West Ham United football (soccer) players such as Bobby Moore in the 1960s and 70s. Essex Lodge Doctor's Surgery on Greengate Street is believed to stand on the site of one of King Henry VIII's hunting lodges. Places of interest in the area include Plaistow Park and the East London Cemetery.
