Blending high-drama piano balladry, polymetric alt-pop, and transcendent plainsong, Rubie is a London-born, Glasgow-based artist, producer, and profound storyteller. Fresh from sold-out headlines at The Divine, Queer Theory, and supporting Tom Rasmussen and Jasmine.4.t, she's gaining recognition beyond the queer underground for her intricate songwriting and raw, emotionally charged performances. Her 2024 album Seek Sistersan ode to the many-gendered siblings who carried her through tumultuous years accessing trans healthcareearned glowing praise from The Quietus (Brilliantly restless), and has been championed by The Matrix director Lilly Wachowski, who selected lead single To Change's music video for screening at New York Pride. Hailing from Portugal's Setúbal bay, Vaiapraia is a DIY post-punk songwriting and performance project that, from its humble solo beginnings in 2013, has since swelled into a collective endeavour. Over the last decade a rotating cast of bandmates, collaborators, performers and experiences have combined to mimic, honor and challenge the thresholds and traditions of pop/rock songcraft. As well as releasing 2 LPs, several EPs and singles, Vaiapraia's wild live shows are raucous, catchy and queer, and they have opened for acts including The Raincoats, Downtown Boys, King Khan and Mega Bog. For Portuguese-speakers, the lyrics are at once cathartic, political, and laden with poetic dissonance. My Body Temperature is Feeling Good is the largest exhibition of work by Milly Thompson in the UK to date, and presents works from 2010 onwards, in which she irreverently lampooned the hegemonic force of luxury consumer culture on women and celebrated the middle-aged female body for its libidinal power. Across the exhibition a strongly rendered sense of the female gaze is established, privileging female desire, glamour, and a purposeful slipperiness of artistic voice and persona that constantly questions the stakes of making art.
