Formed in Exeter several years ago, and barely out of their teens, the band have already built themselves up a dedicated fan base through their ambitious sound which sets them apart from most of the UK guitar scene at the moment. Channelling everything from Jeff Buckley to Zeppelin to Math Rock, the band’s soaring alt-rock sound melds poetic lyrics with duelling guitars and a punk rock spirit that runs through every track. Live, they are a force to be reckoned with. Already established in their hometown (having sold out the 500 capacity Phoenix), they have spent the summer bringing the kinetic live shows to the rest of the country, with a headline tour and festival appearances throughout the summer including Boardmasters, Wilderness, Rock Oyster and Sign of the Times. The tour coincides with the release of their 5 track EP ‘A Beautiful Thing’, out on 7 November. The EP will feature the previously released singles ‘Paris’, ‘Evelyn’ and ‘The Art of Dying’ (for which the band have just released a brand-new video), as well as two brand new songs to add to their arsenal of emotionally powerful alt-rock. There is no lock, no gate, no bolt you can set upon the freedom of my mind! Cambridge University, 1928. Virginia Woolf is abruptly ordered off the grass and refused entry to the library. Her crime? Being a woman. Following this, Woolf interrogates the crushing injustice of women living in 1920s Britain. With an incisive mix of integrity and visceral charm, Woolf forms her ideas about Shakespeares Sister, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte and Aphra Behn among others. In this witty, poignant and provocative adaptation, Alexander reminds us that the issues at the heart of A Room of Ones Own remain as relevant today as they were a hundred years ago. Emul8 Theatre Company challenges boundaries, seeking to engage the audience in a dialogue around themes of justice, female empowerment, and freedom of expression. They develop fresh ideas and perspectives, offering new writing around current issues, concerns and controversies. They also dramatise and adapt existing iconic texts, making them accessible and relevant to a contemporary audience. Emul8 seeks to interrogate prejudices and stereotypical representations through thought-provoking and innovative text and staging.
