WWT London Wetland Centre is the perfect location for bird watching and, at this time of year, for "bird listening" too! As songbirds declare their territories and attempt to attract a mate they're often hidden away in the dense foliage of trees or reed beds. Getting to know them by the sounds they make is very handy whatever your level of interest in birds and wildlife. In this 1½ hour session, you'll learn how to identify birds through song, guided by one of our experts through useful tips, notes and fieldwork. You will finish with complimentary tea and coffee served in our Observatory, offering great views over our main lake. The Centre opens at 10:00 am when you are welcome to head out and explore the rest of the site.

This event is part of the Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival is a celebration of arts, culture and community building. Taking place biannually in June, venues and streets are filled with music, dance, theatre, art installations and exhibitions. This year the festival theme is Cultural Reforesting and responds to the question – how can we renew our relationship with nature? Learn how to get the best out of your smartphone camera. Join Jet as she guides you through how to get stunning, creative images, with just the camera in your pocket. You will cover composition, light, macro (macro lenses will be provided), and generally looking at the world a bit differently. At the end, you will be doing some editing using one of the best - free - editing apps around. No prior experience is required, and it is suitable for any make and model of smartphone. Bio Jeanette (or Jet as she is known), is the founder of Jet Black Squares, a company dedicated to making photography accessible to everyone, not just those with a ‘big’ camera. Coming from a teaching background in the East End of London (many years ago), and then retraining as a professional photographer, she ran her corporate and commercial photography business, for 14 years. Around 7 years ago, she combined her love of teaching and photography and started running smartphone photography workshops - and now doesn’t even own a ‘big’ camera any more. Jet Black Squares has now grown and has locations all over the UK, Ireland and France, all running smartphone photography and videography workshops for anyone who owns a smartphone. Jet lives in Hertfordshire, and can be seen whizzing around the streets on Basil, her wonderful Vespa scooter.

Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the Fibonaccis are a Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid with Günter Pichler and at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam. Following public finals at Wigmore Hall, the Fibonaccis were selected as Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT) artists in 2024. During the 2024/25 season the Fibonaccis will perform extensively throughout Europe,, including concerts in the UK, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and France. They will undertake residencies with ProQuartet in Paris and Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, as well teaching and performing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in their position as Resident Quartet. The Quartet are prolific prize winners and have received numerous awards including First Prize in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, First Prize in the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, The RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award, First Prize in the International Triomphe de lArt Competition in Belgium, The Kirckman Society Award, Audience Prize at the Schiermonnikoog Festival and Special Prizes of the Shostakovich Association in Paris and Peermusic in Hamburg. Additionally, the Quartet regularly give radio and television broadcasts including on Dutch National Television, Dutch Concert Radio, BBC Radio 3 and RAI tv, Italy. They were honoured to work closely with Kaija Saariaho on a new recording of Terra Memoria made at the Barbican as part of the BBC Total Immersion series. The Fibonacci Quartet are generously supported by the Escuela Reina Sofía, the Hattori Foundation, the Cosman Keller Trust, The Frost Trust and Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre in Paris.
