The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven is a unique, emotive, one-woman theatrical piece that leaves everyone feeling blessed as it seeks to end trans discrimination. Jesus has returned to earth as a trans woman and this is your chance to come and meet her even if you dont normally go to church. The show is written and performed by Jo Clifford (Taming of The Shrew, Eve) one of Scotland's most renowned playwrights with over 100 plays to her name, Stonewall role model and recently elected an Elder of the United Reformed Church. Described as having one of the most remarkable journeys in recent theatre history (Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman) the show has indeed had an incredible journey over the last fifteen years since its premiere as part of the Glasgay festival in 2009. From being the subject of hate, abuse and a mass protest outside the initial show, to hundreds of critically acclaimed and sold-out performances in the UK and Brazil. Indeed, the Brazilian version has become the most talked about work in the country and is at the epicentre of the struggle against censorship and bigotry.

The Ben Uri Research Unit (BURU) is happy to present Franciszka Themerson’s Stories from the Life. The exhibition includes the paintings and drawings from her student days at the School of Fine Art in Warsaw and some of her later works in London. Most of them have never been exhibited in England. Of the early works, made in Poland there are 3 paintings, and 19 drawings made between 1929 and 1933, which will be shown in the main gallery. When the exhibition ends, they will be donated to the National Museum in Warsaw. The lower galleries will include works from the 1940s when Franciszka begins to experiment with abstract forms and bright colours. Even though Franciszka Themerson illustrated and designed books, was director of Gaberbocchus Press, made films with her husband Stefan Themerson, designed for the theatre, she was primarily a painter. Her paintings developed from the very tightly crafted, densely coloured scenes of events within interiors of the earliest works, to later images whose meaning could be read in several different ways. The comparison is both puzzling and interesting. The exhibition is accompanied by a small catalogue about the early works, edited by Jasia Reichardt and designed by Pedro Cid Proença.

We welcome back Philippe Sands who has held us rapt on his previous visits to the Library. In 38 Londres Street, Philippe Sands blends personal memoir, historical detective work and gripping courtroom drama to probe a secret double story of mass murder, one that reveals a shocking thread that links the horrors of the 1940s with those of our own times. The house at 38 Londres Street is home to the legacies of two men whose personal stories span continents, nationalities and decades of atrocity: Augusto Pinochet, President of Chile, and Walther Rauff, a Nazi SS officer responsible for the use of gas vans. On the run from justice at the end of the Second World War, Rauff crosses the ocean to southern Chile. He settles in Punta Arenas, Patagonia, managing a king crab cannery at the end of the world. But there are whispers about this discreet and self-possessed German - rumours of a second career with Pinochet's secret intelligence service, the dreaded DINA. In 1998, Pinochet is in a London medical clinic when the police enter his room and arrest him on charges of crimes against humanity and genocide. Philippe Sands is called to advise the former head of state on his claim to immunity, but will instead represent a human rights organisation against him. Years later, Sands makes a discovery while working on another book which reignites his interest in the case and leads to a decades-long investigation into Pinochet's crimes, his unexpected connection to Rauff and the former Nazi's possible connection to Chile's disappeared
