We talk to the owner, Marc Maklouf, about his experience living in this stunning Grade II listed building with outstanding views and an easy commute to central London.
How long have you lived in this property?
M.M: “I’ve lived in the building since it was modernised and refurbished, which was 15 years ago. We have rented it out for the last six years as we moved to north west London to be closer to our children who live there.
We brought up our children here, so have plenty of fond memories of both the house and the area that is brilliant for families.”
What drew you to this property?
M.M: “It’s just absolutely stunning! The house is in the most beautiful setting, with fantastic views stretching all the way to Canary Wharf and beyond.
The area is also very private. There are only four flats in the block and the area that Claybury Hall is set in, Repton Park, is an exclusively residential setting on the grounds of a former Victorian hospital.
Repton Park has its own security with electronic gates, while Claybury Hall also has its own gated entrance, so the building is very secure.”
Have you made any changes?
M.M: “No we didn’t need to! It’s a Grade II listed building built in the 1700s that has elegant features throughout. There have been new townhouses built nearby, but all are in keeping with the same traditional style, so the setting has an overall striking impression of classic beauty.”
What is your favourite room in the house?
M.M: “It would have to be the reception room due to the stunning views you can see through the three large sash windows. It provides a brilliant backdrop for entertaining.”
What can you tell us about the area?
M.M: “The immediate area of Repton Park boasts a fantastic community, it’s great to be a part of it. It’s close to Epping Forest and provides a combination of restored Victorian Gothic buildings and sympathetically designed new build properties. It also includes an onsite Virgin Active gym.
Woodford Green is a well populated area bordering Chigwell, with plenty of facilities with shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There are also fantastic schools. Woodford Underground Station is here, being around a ten minute drive from Claybury Hall, and is only a 21 minute journey to central London! The M25 is also within easy reach.
All this makes the area perfect for a family, with Claybury Hall itself being an ideal family home.”
