It’s kind of amazing, the flood of affection these little streets are getting lately. Let's revel in the exterior storybook charm and elegant modern interiors of London mews.
The mews started as purpose-built stables and servant quarters, tucked away behind Georgian and Victorian homes. For a time, they were forgotten in the rush as motor vehicles took over London's roads. Then around the 1960s, public opinion changed again, and many mews were rediscovered and renovated into truly exceptional homes. Now these prime properties capture the hearts of historians, celebrities, influencers and locals.

More about the mews
Side note: do you wonder why they're called mews? These streets were designed, in part, for stables, so they were named after the Royal Mews – eventually replaced by a familiar face, Trafalgar Square. The stables housed the King’s falcons, and for falcons, moulting is called mew, so the place they moult is called a mews.
