Celebrating National Walking Month in London

We’re in the midst of a warm spell, with plenty of spring sunshine to enjoy in London this week. It coincides perfectly with National Walking Month.

A good nearby park or outdoor space is a huge selling point for London property – we don’t take any sunny days for granted here! – so you bet our Negotiators have some recommendations for National Walking Month.

Jubilee Spree

Preparing for next month’s Platinum Jubilee Parade? Why not start with a stroll along the Jubilee Greenway – a 60km walk that was completed for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which marked 60 years on the throne. Or you could do the Jubilee Walkway, developed for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 (Jubilee maps found at www.gps-routes.co.uk).

Tour of the Thames

The image of the Thames weaving through the heart of London is iconic. Take a walk along it and you’ll see some of London’s greatest sights, too. The river spans across the Capital, and it has paths all along it (see a few walking routes from TFL), so wherever you start – Chiswick, Embankment, Albert Bridge, East India Docks – you’ll never get bored.

Do it for the view

If you need some motivation to get out there and walk, maybe set yourself a goal – like the moment when a mountain climber hits the peak and stands in awe of the incredible view. London is just as cinematic and jaw-dropping, so it’s easy to set yourself a picture-perfect goal, like:

Kingston to Richmond…Hill

We’ve mentioned most of this walk in our blog, Wipe your paws: best homes for dog walks, but it bears repeating. Starting in Kingston, by the river, you can make your way past Hampton Wick, Teddington and Twickenham with beautiful Thames views all along the way, and into Richmond. Then, if you cross the bridge and head up the hill, you can enjoy the incredible view out across Richmond Park, London’s biggest Royal Park.

We won't reveal this view, just the beautiful palace you'll stand in front of to look out over London.

Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace

The Parkland Walk in Haringey will take you all along an old, long-gone Victorian railway line. London’s longest local nature reserve starts at Finsbury Park and goes all the way to Alexandra Palace. There’s so much wildlife and wildflowers to see along the trails and (again, if you can challenge yourself to climb the hill), there is a huge reward. This view is second-to-none. Look out across London from Alexandra Palace, and celebrate your success in National Walking Month.
