In the spotlight this week is the south London suburb of Clapham, which is best known for the green expanses of Clapham Common, elegant period properties and of course, Clapham High Street’s nightlife. Home to some of London’s biggest celeb names, these are just a few famous faces who you might spot in the Clapham area.
Margot Robbie
Margot has famously admitted to still living in a house share in Clapham with her friends – even after getting married to her film director husband. When she’s not shooting a Hollywood blockbuster, you can often spot her around the Clapham area, enjoying the sun on Clapham Common or hitting the Infernos dancefloor after a bar crawl down Clapham High Street.
Vivienne Westwood
Fashion designer and leader of the punk fashion movement, Dame Vivienne Westwood has been a Clapham resident for nearly 50 years. She lived in an ex-council flat on Nightingale Lane for 30 years with her then boyfriend Malcolm McLaren, who was the manager of the Sex Pistols. After that she moved to her current home in Clapham Old Town, where she live has lived with her husband Andreas for nearly 20 years.
Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Although they already own a house in London, Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are currently renting an eight bedroom house near Clapham Common for a reported £10,000 a week. The couple were previously living in their LA mansion, but have since moved to Clapham, as Jason has started shooting a movie in the Clapham area.
Gordon Ramsay
On the opposite side of Northcote Road close to Wandsworth Common lives celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. He lives here with his wife Tana and their children, having bought the house by auction 16 years ago. The original house was divided up into flats when they purchased it, but they set about transforming it back to its former glory. But the Ramsays are currently building a holiday home in Cornwall, so it looks like we’ll be seeing less of them around Clapham.
Joanna Lumley
Up past Clapham High Street in the Stockwell area lives one of Britain’s most loved actresses, Joanna Lumley. Best known for her part as Patsy in Ab Fab and for being a human rights activist, she’s lived in her five-storey town house overlooking a pretty garden square with her husband Stephen for 27 years and can often be found in her local, the Canton Arms.
