Over the past twelve months our local experts have been highlighting lesser-known areas of London that are enjoying a surge in popularity. We take a look at these six hotspots to discover where savvy Londoners are moving to in 2020.
South Croydon
Boasting a 17-minute commute into London Bridge, South Croydon offers buyers and renters good value period properties on tree-lined streets, but with easy access to the ever-expanding amenities of central Croydon. Excellent schools, such as Whitgift School and The Old Palace School, offer additional appeal to families, while Purley Way Playing Fields and Croham Woods provide plenty of green spaces and sports facilities.

South Norwood
Just north of Croydon, South Norwood is another London suburb attracting young families who are looking for more square feet for their money. The area "ticks a lot of boxes for first time buyers and young families," according to Foxtons' Sales Manager for our Crystal Palace office, and with three bedroom properties starting from just £350,000, now is a good time to buy into this thriving hotspot.

East Barnet
Moving up to north London now, and into the leafy neighbourhood of East Barnet. As Ben Connolly, Sales Manager in Foxtons' Barnet office explains, "its enviable combination of plentiful green spaces, large family homes, excellent schools and affordable prices make it an outstanding option with a genuine 'village' feel." With prices for two bedroom properties set around £325,000-£400,000, East Barnet is a great option for commuters and families alike.
Our guide to East Barnet gives many more reasons for the increasing popularity of the area.
Hanwell
Heading out west, just past the sought-after Victorian homes and green spaces of Ealing, we find Hanwell – another hotspot enjoying a surge in popularity. The opening of the Elizabeth Line will further add to the appeal of this peaceful location, which provides an attractive option for movers whose budget won't stretch to the more familiar west London areas.

Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Battersea (VNEB)
An area benefitting from enormous levels of regeneration, the Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Battersea Opportunity Area (VNEB) area promises to bring 20,000 new homes and 25,000 new jobs to this central stretch of riverside real estate. Bus, rail and tube connections are second to none, while the wide variety of new properties being created offer something for most buyers and tenants.

Greenwich
Greenwich is the site of another sizeable riverside regeneration project, with the area west of the World Heritage Site village seeing major development, as well as the Greenwich Peninsula east of the O2 Arena. In an article earlier last year we looked at the movies that have been shot in and around the historic Naval College in Greenwich, but it's the new homes in this appealing borough that are attracting the most attention right now.
